Amid layoffs, B-1 and B-2 visa holders granted permission to apply for jobs - a glimmer of hope
The global tech industry has been hit hard by layoffs from major companies like Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon. Amidst this challenging time, there is good news for B1 and B2 visa holders who are traveling to the US for business or tourism. They can now apply for new jobs and attend interviews, thanks to the recent announcement by the United States government. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) also clarified that non-immigrant workers need not leave the country immediately after being laid off; they can take action during a 60-day grace period, such as filing for a change of non-immigrant status or adjustment status. This move is a relief for foreign-born workers, including many Indians, who have been affected by tech company layoffs.
